Anxiety Treatment in Manhattan, NYC
Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in the United States, yet it remains one of the most undertreated. For many people, the anxiety never fully lifts, no matter how many medications they try, how long they stay in therapy, or how hard they work to manage it. At InnerMost, we offer anxiety treatment in Manhattan that goes beyond symptom management to address the neurological and psychological roots of chronic anxiety. Our integrated approach combines ketamine therapy, Spravato, and evidence-based psychotherapy, giving people who haven't found lasting relief a genuinely different path forward.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is not weakness, and it is not simply worry. It is a dysregulation of the nervous system, one that can manifest as persistent fear, physical tension, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, panic, and a pervasive sense that something is wrong, even when nothing specific can be named. For many people, it is the backdrop of daily life: always present, always consuming energy, always narrowing the range of what feels safe or possible.
Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental health conditions in the United States, affecting an estimated 40 million adults. They include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, specific phobias, and agoraphobia, among others. Anxiety also commonly co-occurs with depression, trauma, and PTSD, and the interaction between these conditions can make each one harder to treat in isolation.
Conventional anxiety treatment typically involves SSRIs, SNRIs, benzodiazepines, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. For many people, these approaches provide meaningful, if partial, relief.
For others, they don’t touch the underlying experience at all. At InnerMost, we work with people across this full spectrum, including those for whom conventional treatment has fallen short and who are ready for a more integrated, neurologically targeted approach.
- Anxiety disorders affect an estimated 40 million adults in the United States, making them the most common mental health condition in the country.
- Anxiety frequently co-occurs with depression, trauma, and PTSD, and treating each in isolation often leaves the full picture unaddressed.
- Ketamine therapy promotes rapid neuroplasticity and can interrupt entrenched anxiety patterns in ways that conventional medications cannot.
A Different Approach to Anxiety Treatment
Most anxiety treatment in Manhattan starts and ends with a familiar toolkit: an SSRI prescription, a referral to CBT, and a plan to manage symptoms over time. For a meaningful portion of patients, that toolkit is genuinely insufficient. The anxiety persists, the medication side effects accumulate, and the therapy, while helpful, never quite reaches the root.
At InnerMost, we offer something different. Our integrated model combines the rapid neurological action of ketamine and Spravato with the depth of licensed psychotherapy, bringing together medicine and therapeutic support under one roof. Rather than managing anxiety, we aim to create the conditions for genuine change: at the level of the nervous system, the psychological patterns that sustain anxiety, and the relational dynamics through which it expresses itself.
01
Why ketamine and Spravato® for anxiety?
Ketamine and Spravato® work by targeting the brain’s glutamate system, promoting rapid neuroplasticity: the formation of new synaptic connections in regions that chronic anxiety and stress tend to erode. This neurological reset can quiet the hyperactive threat-detection patterns that drive anxiety, reduce the intensity of intrusive thoughts, and create a window in which new ways of thinking and relating become genuinely accessible. Many patients describe a meaningful reduction in anxiety within hours to days of their first session, often for the first time in years.
02
Why psychotherapy alongside it?
Anxiety is not only a neurological phenomenon. It is also learned, reinforced by patterns of avoidance, catastrophic thinking, and the stories we carry about what is dangerous and what we are capable of. Psychotherapy at InnerMost addresses these patterns directly, using IFS, AEDP, and Gestalt approaches that are well-suited to the relational and emotional roots of anxiety. When paired with ketamine or Spravato, this therapeutic work becomes more accessible, the plasticity window makes it easier to practice new responses and build new patterns. Integration sessions after each dosing session are where this work happens.
Anxiety Treatments at InnerMost
We offer multiple evidence-based treatment options for anxiety, each suited to different clinical presentations and patient goals. Your InnerMost care team will help you determine the right fit during your initial consultation.
01
Ketamine Therapy
InnerMost offers ketamine therapy for anxiety in Manhattan through three formats: Ketamine Infusion With Integration (KIWI), Ketamine Infusion Therapy (KIT), and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). All three formats include medical supervision and access to our licensed clinical team. KIWI and KAP include preparation and integration sessions with an InnerMost therapist built into the treatment pathway. Ketamine therapy is particularly well-suited for people with chronic, severe, or treatment-resistant anxiety who are seeking neurological relief alongside deep therapeutic support.
02
Spravato® (Esketamine)
While Spravato is FDA-approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression and MDD with suicidal ideation, anxiety very commonly co-occurs with depression, and many patients seeking Spravato at InnerMost are managing both. For patients who meet the diagnostic criteria for Spravato and whose anxiety is intertwined with their depressive presentation, Spravato can offer meaningful relief for both. It is covered by most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Empire BlueCross, Medicare, and Fidelis. Your InnerMost prescriber will determine your eligibility during your medical consultation.
03
Psychotherapy
For patients who are not yet ready for ketamine or Spravato, or who want to begin with a strong therapeutic foundation, InnerMost offers individual psychotherapy with licensed therapists trained in IFS, AEDP, and Gestalt psychology. These modalities are particularly effective for anxiety: IFS works with the protective parts that drive anxious responses; AEDP creates the safe relational conditions under which the nervous system can finally begin to settle; and Gestalt attends to present-moment experience and somatic awareness in ways that interrupt the anticipatory loops that sustain anxiety. Psychotherapy is also the essential complement to ketamine or Spravato treatment, where integration work is where the neurological shifts become lasting behavioral change.

How InnerMost's Approach to Anxiety Works
Our integrated anxiety treatment model works on multiple levels simultaneously: neurological, psychological, and relational. Here is what the research and our clinical experience show:
Rapid interruption of anxiety patterns.
Ketamine’s action on the glutamate system can quiet the hyperactive threat-detection circuits that drive chronic anxiety, producing a noticeable reduction in anxious arousal within hours to days of the first session. For people who have lived with relentless background anxiety for years, this shift, even if temporary at first, can feel transformative. It creates breathing room, and breathing room is where therapeutic work becomes possible.
Neuroplasticity and new neural pathways.
Chronic anxiety reinforces the neural pathways that sustain it. The brain becomes efficient at detecting threat, generating worry, and responding with avoidance. Ketamine and Spravato promote the growth of new synaptic connections, disrupting these entrenched patterns at the neurological level and opening a window during which new responses can be learned and consolidated through therapy.
Psychological depth and pattern change.
Anxiety is sustained not just by neurochemistry but by learned patterns of thought, avoidance, and interpretation. Our therapists use IFS, AEDP, and Gestalt approaches to work with these patterns directly, helping you understand the protective functions your anxiety has served, develop a more compassionate relationship with the parts of yourself that generate anxious responses, and build new ways of meeting the experiences you’ve been avoiding. When done alongside ketamine or Spravato, this work is more accessible and more effective.
Somatic regulation.
Anxiety lives in the body as much as in the mind: in the tightness of the chest, the shallowness of breath, the restlessness that makes stillness feel impossible. Our therapists are trained in somatic awareness and the relationship between body and nervous system, and integration sessions can include practices like breath work, mindfulness, and somatic tracking to help your body learn what it feels like to be at rest.
Sustained relief through integration.
The neuroplasticity window opened by ketamine or Spravato is time-limited, but the work done within it is not. Dedicated integration sessions in the days following each dosing session, where you and your therapist process what arose and work to consolidate new patterns, are how the relief becomes lasting. Many of our anxiety patients describe feeling, for the first time, like the anxious voice in their head has gotten quieter, and the integration work is what keeps it that way.
What to Expect: Your Anxiety Treatment Journey at InnerMost
Every patient who comes to InnerMost for anxiety treatment has a different history and set of needs. Here is how the process typically unfolds:
01
Initial Consultation
You’ll begin with a 1-hour Medical Consultation and a 50-minute Therapy Consultation, typically both via telehealth. These sessions give your clinical team a comprehensive picture of your anxiety: its nature, severity, history, and what has and hasn’t worked before. Together, you’ll determine whether ketamine, Spravato, psychotherapy, or a combination is the right starting point.
02
Preparation
For patients beginning ketamine or Spravato therapy, a preparation session with a licensed therapist comes next. Working with anxiety in a non-ordinary state can bring up material that benefits from careful preparation. Your therapist will help you set intentions, develop a safety plan, and build the psychological foundation for your first dosing session.
03
Treatment Sessions
Ketamine infusion sessions last 90 to 120 minutes in a private, serene treatment room. Spravato sessions last approximately 120 minutes including monitoring and recovery time. Vital signs are monitored throughout and your clinical team is present to ensure your safety and comfort. Depending on your treatment pathway, an InnerMost therapist may be with you before and after administration to help you navigate what arises.
04
Integration
Within a few days of each dosing session, you’ll meet with your therapist for a dedicated integration session. This is where the neuroplasticity window is put to work: processing what arose during your session, building on insights, and practicing the new responses and patterns that the treatment has made accessible. Integration is the engine of lasting change in our model.
05
Ongoing Care
A standard course of ketamine infusions is typically six sessions over three to six weeks, followed by optional maintenance. Spravato follows a twice-weekly acute phase for four weeks, then weekly or biweekly maintenance. Ongoing psychotherapy between sessions is strongly encouraged and central to the durability of your gains. Your InnerMost team will review your progress throughout and adjust your plan as your process evolves.
A Space Designed for Your Healing
For people navigating anxiety, the environment in which they receive care matters especially. A clinical setting that feels cold, rushed, or impersonal can activate the very nervous system responses that treatment is trying to quiet. At InnerMost, our Manhattan center at 137 East 25th Street, 11th Floor, in the Nomad neighborhood was designed with your nervous system in mind: calming materials, private treatment rooms, and an atmosphere that supports safety, openness, and the kind of stillness that anxious minds rarely get to experience.
Our center is easily accessible from Midtown, Flatiron, Gramercy, Chelsea, and the East Village. Telehealth consultations are also available for New York residents.

Pricing & Insurance for Anxiety Treatment in Manhattan
We believe financial considerations shouldn’t stand between you and effective anxiety treatment. Here’s what you need to know:
Spravato®: covered by most insurance for eligible patients.
Spravato is FDA-approved and covered by most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Empire BlueCross, Medicare, and Fidelis, for patients who meet the diagnostic criteria (treatment-resistant depression or MDD with suicidal ideation). Since anxiety and depression frequently co-occur, many anxiety patients qualify. Your InnerMost prescriber will assess your eligibility during the medical consultation.
IV ketamine: not typically covered by insurance.
Most insurance plans do not cover IV ketamine directly. However, portions of your care, including the medical consultation and psychotherapy sessions, may be eligible for partial reimbursement. Our team can provide documentation to support insurance claims and help you explore FSA and HSA eligibility.
Psychotherapy: coverage varies.
Integration and preparatory therapy sessions may or may not be covered depending on your plan. We’ll work with you to understand your options. Please reach out to our team for current pricing and to discuss what may be available under your plan.
Frequently Asked Questions About Anxiety Treatment in Manhattan
Is ketamine approved for anxiety treatment?
Ketamine is not currently FDA-approved specifically for anxiety disorders, but it has been used off-label for anxiety with growing clinical evidence supporting its efficacy. Its action on the glutamate system and its capacity to promote rapid neuroplasticity make it a compelling option for people with chronic or treatment-resistant anxiety, particularly when anxiety co-occurs with depression. At InnerMost, ketamine for anxiety is prescribed by board-certified physicians who will assess your full clinical picture and determine whether it is an appropriate treatment for you.
Can Spravato help with anxiety?
Spravato is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression and MDD with suicidal ideation, not anxiety disorders specifically. However, because anxiety and depression co-occur in a large proportion of patients, many people seeking anxiety treatment at InnerMost also meet the criteria for Spravato. When the depressive component of a patient’s presentation is treated with Spravato, anxiety symptoms frequently improve as well. Your InnerMost prescriber will assess your eligibility during your medical consultation.
How quickly can I expect to feel relief from anxiety?
Many patients report a noticeable reduction in anxiety within hours to days of their first ketamine session. This can manifest as a quieting of the internal anxious voice, reduced physical tension, or simply a sense of being able to breathe more easily. That said, individual responses vary, and the durability of relief is strongly influenced by the integration work that follows each session. Your InnerMost team will monitor your progress throughout and adjust your plan accordingly.
What types of anxiety does InnerMost treat?
We work with adults navigating generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, and anxiety that co-occurs with depression, trauma, PTSD, or chronic illness. If you’re unsure whether your experience fits a specific diagnostic category, that’s completely fine. Your initial consultation with our clinical team is the right place to explore that.
What makes InnerMost different from other anxiety treatment providers in NYC?
At InnerMost, anxiety treatment is always delivered within a therapeutic framework. Preparation and integration sessions with a licensed psychotherapist are built into every ketamine pathway, not offered as optional extras. Our therapists are trained in IFS, AEDP, and Gestalt approaches that are particularly well-suited to the relational and somatic dimensions of anxiety. And our clinical team includes active researchers at the forefront of psychedelic-assisted therapy, which means the quality of care you receive reflects the most current evidence in the field.
Do I have to stop my current anxiety medications to begin treatment at InnerMost?
Not necessarily. Whether you continue, taper, or pause your current medications depends on your specific situation and will be determined by your InnerMost prescriber during your medical consultation. Some medications interact with ketamine or Spravato and may need to be adjusted. Your clinical team will review your full medication history and guide you through this carefully and safely.
Does InnerMost accept insurance for anxiety treatment?
Spravato is covered by most major insurance plans for eligible patients. IV ketamine is not typically covered by insurance, though some elements of care may qualify for reimbursement. Psychotherapy coverage varies by plan. Our team will help you verify your benefits and navigate your options.
